Black Russian Cocktail from Passion for Cocktails

The velvety mixture of Kahlua (coffee liqueur) and vodka make this Cocktail a potent combination. Created during the time of the Cold War, it will certainly thaw any coldness and thoroughly warm you inside and out!  Using just two wonderful ingredients, it is quick, simple and a winner each time.

Ingredients: 
  • 2 shots Ketel One Vodka
  • 3/4 Shot Coffee Liqueur
How to make one: 
  1. Add all the ingredients into the Cocktail shaker over ice
  2. Strain into an Old Fashion (tumbler) glass
  3. Garnish with a thin slice of Lemon and a cherry on a Cocktail stick
Background: 

Gustav Tops created this Cocktail in 1949 for the affluent socialite and Ambassador of Luxembourg - Perle Skirvin Mesta.  It is from her the much used phrase "Hostess with the Mostess" was coined.

The Rocks Glass is known by several names - depending on where you are in the country and in which Cocktail lounge you are in.  It can be referred to as "An Old Fashioned", a "Tumbler", a "Whiskey" glass or even a "Low Ball" glass. This is a small glass with usually two or three ingredients only.   So called 'rocks' as they drink in this glass will contain invariably 'ice cubes'.
