Flirtina Cocktail from Passion for Cocktails

Sex and the City made this incredible Cocktail famous amongst jet-setters and lovers of the TV series.  The combination of all the ingredients work so well on many levels.

On the visual side, the Blue Curacao, the green of the melon liqueur and of course a dash of Strawberry juice all go to create a Wow! factor.

Layering the glass with the various ingredients certainly adds to the eye-appeal and the sheer spectacle of this stunning Cocktail.

The original Flirtina contains Champagne as the main ingredient.  We have substituted Champagne for Vodka to give a slightly different twist and of course, to keep the cost down.

  • 1/4 shot Blue Curacao
  • 1/2 shot Passionfruit puree
  • 1 shot Vodka
  • 1/4 shot Lychee liqueur
  • 1/4 shot  Melon liqueur
  • 1/4 shot Lime
  • 1 shot Pineapple juice
  • Dash strawberry juice
How to make one:

Add all the ingredients in order - slowly if the layering effect is desired. Fresh pineapple can be used - muddled first in the glass before the other ingredients added.  Like all good Cocktails, there are many variations and styles of making this Cocktail.  No two Mixologists will make the Flirtina the same way - it is not one of those Cocktails that can be churned out homogenously every time. Practice and perfect.

First accredited and seen on the TV series Sex and The City.  It has since gone on to be a world-wide sensation.  As a result there are now many, many versions of this stupendous Cocktail.

Glassware For This Cocktail

Hurricane Cockail Glass from Passion for Ice Hurricane Cocktail Glass
Pat O'Brian's Bar is located in French Quarter of New Orleans.  During the prohibition period (of the USA) to get in to the bar the password was said to be: "Storm's Brewing".  This is surely an indication of the ingenuity of the owners and bar tenders to circumnavigate the law and draw in business! The history of the Hurricane Cocktail is interesting and fascinating; It is said during the second World War American bars in the USA had a hard time importing such liquor as Scottish Whiskey into the Country. Liquor salesmen were crafty and savvy:  O'Brian's (and others) as a result were forced to purchase more cases of rum (which was easier to get) up to 50 cases to one case of Scotch Whiskey. However O'Brians was determined to make money and get rid of the surplus of rum they had to order.  Creating a drink based on rum and in a 'different' glass they thought was the answer.  They were right and their gamble paid off.  The Hurricane glass was destined (from the 1940's onwards) to be the Caribbean, the easy-drinking, the 'cool' and most icon set of drinks ever created.
